Q+A with the Artist–
–How would you describe your sound?
I think as I songwriter, I always write on an acoustic guitar, so I think I have a very acoustic sound, but I also listen to a lot alternative rock. So I think it's still kind of developing but it's somewhere in there and kind of my own hybrid in a way.
–Which artists have influenced your sound the most and why?
The song that I recorded today had pretty specific influences. The Bad Books and Manchester Orchestra were both big influences and the chord structure of my song is kind of similar to Manchester Orchestra's songs. As far as the melody goes I think it comes from a lot of places all together.
–Are you willing to reveal the backstory behind “Air and Angels?”
Yeah, it's a long story of a personal experience. I think it tells a pretty good story with a larger emphasis on the idea of "in my head," and perception vs. reality.
--When and how did you first begin to write music?
I've been writing stuff for fun since I was 8, when I started playing the guitar. Music's in my blood (laughs). But I kind of seriously started writing songs about 2 years ago.
–What inspires you to write music?
I think it's definitely always been an emotional outlet for me. There's definitely something about covering other artists and just playing songs that I connect with that special, but there's something else about the poetry of music, where it lets you get things out that you couldn't through other means, which I think is pretty special.
