Q+A with the Artist–

–How would you describe your sound?
I think as I songwriter, I always write on an acoustic guitar, so I think I have a very acoustic sound, but I also listen to a lot alternative rock. So I think it's still kind of developing but it's somewhere in there and kind of my own hybrid in a way.

–Which artists have influenced your sound the most and why?
The song that I recorded today had pretty specific influences. The Bad Books and Manchester Orchestra were both big influences and the chord structure of my song is kind of similar to Manchester Orchestra's songs. As far as the melody goes I think it comes from a lot of places all together.

–Are you willing to reveal the backstory behind “Air and Angels?”
Yeah, it's a long story of a personal experience. I think it tells a pretty good story with a larger emphasis on the idea of "in my head," and perception vs. reality.

--When and how did you first begin to write music?
I've been writing stuff for fun since I was 8, when I started playing the guitar. Music's in my blood (laughs). But I kind of seriously started writing songs about 2 years ago.

–What inspires you to write music?
I think it's definitely always been an emotional outlet for me. There's definitely something about covering other artists and just playing songs that I connect with that special, but there's something else about the poetry of music, where it lets you get things out that you couldn't through other means, which I think is pretty special.

lyrics

Hoping for something you said to change
Come back and love me
For all the hate that you have bred
Come back and save me
And now you look so perfect
And my eyes stain you
But all you’ll give a fuck is for some boy
Who’ll never know you
Just let me know you

And I don’t want to be the one to be your friend
When it seems you’re blind to what we had, won’t comprehend

That in my head it’s all you that I could never breathe
But in my head I’m just lonely
In my head I’m lost but who’s to say you’re free
In my head I can’t stop wanting you, you and me

All I ever wanted was your song
To be part of my life
But all the words you sang, they came out wrong
They were never like mine
You knew, you played the same
So now I’ll hold you
But not the way I had up in my head
I’m all against you
I was never with you

And I don’t want to be the one to just pretend
That I’ll pick up just where you want me as a friend

And in my head it’s all you that I could never breathe
But in my head I’m just lonely
In my head I’m lost but who’s to say you’re free
In my head I can’t stop wanting you, you and me

In my head there’s just Air and Angles
Blowing ‘round the dust they left up there for me
And saying prayers for me
It’s all a waste to me
Yeah yeah yeah….

And I don’t want to be the one to just pretend
That I’ll pick up just where you want me as a friend

And in my head it’s all you that I could never breathe
But in my head I’m just lonely
In my head I’m lost but who’s to say you’re free
In my head I can’t stop wanting you, you and me
